Mines — Scream And Run Event
A mine shaft, a train whistle, and a different kind of school.
The Mines are a limited-time map introduced during the Scream And Run live event running from 4 to 12 September 2026. It replaces the familiar dark school with a mine-shaft environment, and the Cat in the Hat takes a back seat to Thomas the Train — a new hunter who patrols the tunnels on rails. If you arrived from a walkthrough thumbnail showing a train instead of a hallway, this is the right page.
This is not a permanent playlist. The event window is the only time this map is live. Once it closes, the Mines will not appear in normal Escape or Free Roam queues until the studio brings it back. Treat the session accordingly.
What is different in the Mines
The school and the mine share the same core loop — find keys, open the exit, avoid the hunter — but the terrain changes every tactical assumption. Corridors are narrower. Sight lines are longer. Rails create hard chokepoints that the Cat in the Hat never forced in the school. Thomas moves along fixed tracks, which means his approach angles are predictable but his coverage is faster.
Flashlight discipline matters more here. The mine is darker by default than the school. Pumping F in a tunnel gives Thomas a long, clean audio and visual cue. Pulse once, read the pile, off.
Thomas the Train as the hunter
Thomas the Train is the named hunter for this event. Unlike the Cat in the Hat who patrols on foot and can corner, Thomas is locked to rail segments. His strengths:
- Fast horizontal movement along established track lines
- Clear audio cue — a train whistle that echoes through mine shafts before he rounds the corner
- Hard chokepoints at junction boxes and rail switches
His weakness: rails are predictable. If you hear a whistle from the east tunnel, Thomas is not suddenly behind you on the west flank. He is on the east rail. Use that to split your route.
Do not stand on the rails assuming Thomas will go around. On a narrow gauge, he will not.
Keys and backpacks in the mine
Keys still hide in containers — here, supply crates and minecart piles instead of school desks and backpacks. The search interaction is the same. The silhouettes are different. Use Free Roam in the event playlist to learn the crate shapes before committing to a badge attempt.
Backpacks in this context are supply satchels on the walls. Same interact prompt, different geometry. Hall satchels are fast and exposed. Crate clusters in side chambers are slower and safer at crouch height.
Event rules and badge status
As of 8 September 2026, the event runs from 4 September to 12 September. The two standard badges — Escape The Cat In The Hat and Escape The Cat In The Hat With No Power On — still resolve to the school universe. A Mines-specific badge has not appeared on universe 10761687472 as of this check.
This means you can play the Mines in Free Roam or Hide And Seek during the event window without a specific trophy contract. The embedded walkthrough in the middle of this page covers a full Mines run so you understand the layout before you queue.
When the event ends
After 12 September 2026, the Mines playlist will no longer be accessible in normal queues. The school returns as the only map. Thomas the Train does not appear in standard Escape, Free Roam, or Hide And Seek unless the studio adds him as a permanent rotation.
If the studio announces an extension or a return, the updates hub will carry the date. Bookmark it.

Play the school first if you have not earned a normal Escape badge. The Mines are a cosmetic and mechanical variant, not an easier entry point. Getting Started covers the school loop that everything else is built on. Escape is the full run plan. Keys and Backpacks applies to both maps — only the container shapes change.
If you are here because Thomas scared you in a thumbnail: good. That is the correct reaction. Now learn the whistle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is the Mines map permanent?
No. It is part of a limited-time event from 4 to 12 September 2026. After that date it will not appear in normal queues unless the studio brings it back.
Who is the hunter in the Mines?
Thomas the Train. He moves on rails rather than on foot, which makes his approach angles predictable but his coverage faster than the Cat in the Hat.
Does the Escape badge work in the Mines?
The standard badges resolve to the school universe. Confirm against the badge catalog on the Roblox page if you earned a trophy in a Mines run.
How is the mine different from the school?
Narrower corridors, longer sight lines, rail chokepoints, and a darker default environment. Flashlight discipline is more critical.
